BTA ANNOUNCES 2003 'RESELLERS OF THE YEAR
Based on such factors as their gross profit, adherence to a business plan and efforts to reduce employee turnover, two Business Technology Association (BTA) member dealerships were recently named recipients of the organization's 2003 "Reseller of the Year" awards. This year's winners are Bay Copy of Rockland, Mass., and Carr Business Systems of Melville, N.Y. "These two dealerships are certainly deserving of this recognition," said 2002-03 BTA President Dennis Hunter. "They exemplify what can be achieved through the hard work and determination of a dedicated management team. Both have distinguished themselves as model dealerships within the BTA Channel. They have earned our respect and praise."
The companies were among a number of self-nominees, evaluated in four key performance categories: finance, including average sales per employee, gross margin, inventory turnover and average collection period; operations, including effectiveness in reducing employee turnover, customer-focused programs, business plan goals and objectives, and 2002 business growth pattern; vision, including marketing innovations related to selling future technologies and adherence to a formal vision statement; and involvement, including industry recognition and community involvement.
The dealerships were selected as award winners in two revenue categories, based upon an evaluation of comprehensive candidate profiles submitted by prospective award recipients. Bay Copy received the award in the $3 million to $10 million category and Carr Business Systems received the award in the $10 million-plus category.
Paul Schulman serves as president of Carr Business Systems, a Global Imaging Systems Inc. company. With four locations, the dealership sells products from Ricoh, Konica, KIP, Smart Technologies, Canon and Hewlett-Packard. The dealership, which experienced an 8 percent increase in business in 2002, has 188 employees. New employees are hired based on a one-hour initial interview, followed by a two-hour "Interest Analysis" and a final three-hour interview over a three to five day period. Nearly one third of Carr's employees have worked at the dealership for more than 10 years.
Among the dealership's initiative and programs:
- Provides customers with a Welcome Package when equipment is delivered, which identifies key individuals and contacts at Carr, all the way up to the president, who can assist them any concerns.
- Provided more than 100 copiers and fax machines to the U.S. Open Golf Tournament and allows charities access to Carr's boardroom and automated presentation equipment.
- Has partnered with two facilities management companies to provide copier and facsimile equipment to their customers.
